[more]Propositions is a public forum that explores ideas in development. Each two-day seminar introduces a topic of current investigation in an invited speaker’s own artistic or intellectual practice. Over the course of a seminar session, these developing ideas are responded to, researched, and discussed to propel them forward in unique ways. The Proposition this month is by Mac Wellman.
Mac Wellman’s recent plays are: Bitter Bierce (Performance Space 122); Jennie Richee, with the Ridge Theater (the Arts at St. Ann); Anything’s Dream (Muhlenberg College); and Antigone with Big Dance Company (Dance Theater Workshop). He has published two novels with Sun & Moon Press: The Fortuneteller and Annie Salem. Sun & Moon also published A Shelf in Woop’s Clothing, a book of poems, “From the Other Side of the Century II,” an anthology of plays (coedited with Douglas Messerli), “Two Plays: The Land Beyond The Forest, and Crowtet 1 and 2,” the latter two volumes under the Green Integer imprint. Roof Books has recently published his Miniature, a book of poems. He has received numerous awards: NEA, NYFA, Rockefeller, Mcknight, and Guggenheim Fellowships. In 1990, he received an Obie for Best American Play (Bad Penny, Crowbar, and Terminal Hip). In 1991, he received another Obie for SincerityForever. He has received a Lila Wallace Reader’s Digest Writers Award, and most recently the 2003 Obie for Lifetime Achievement. He is the Donald I. Fine Professor of Play Writing at Brooklyn College.

[more]After Daft Punk, Air & Phoenix… Versailles provides us a new sensation called Saint Michel
As symbol of both royalty and revolution, the Palace of Versailles casts a long shadow over its inhabitants. Just half an hour from the French capital, the leafy city is classicism personified, which makes it all the more perverse that in the past 20 years, it has fostered some of the country’s greatest musical exports - Phoenix, Air, Alex Gopher and Etienne de Crécy, not to mention Daft Punk.
Enter Philippe Thuillier and Emile Larroche, who together make up Saint Michel. Certainly their music bears the imprints of the city’s favourite sons, their songs striking that magical happy-sad sweet spot. On debut EP ‘I Love Japan’, the duo deftly blend synth swells, clipped beats and sun-warmed melodies to create what the duo call “sentimental electro-pop”. There’s the breezy optimism of ‘Crooner’s Eyes’, a palpable ache pulling at the robotic, R&B-influenced vocals of ‘Wastin’ Tastin’’, while a sinuous bassline weaves through the Balearic-tinged title track. Saint Michel expertly balance on the knife-edge of familiar and fresh.
“We want to write sensitive songs, but we want to write songs you can dance to as well,” explains 28-year-old Philippe. Vintage keyboards might be a hot topic of conversation between the two, but girls dominate the band’s lyrical preoccupations. “It’s always about love, but it’s not easy love – it’s complicated love,” says Philippe. After time spent playing together in a previous band, Philippe and 19-year-old Emile splintered off to form Saint Michel just over a year ago, inking a deal with Columbia in may 2012. Early on their demos piqued interest, their live shows and EP inspiring excitable write-ups in the French press, which helped secure a forthcoming tour opening for Sebastien Tellier.
“We are not technical – that’s forbidden – it’s instinctive, it’s only pop music.” – Saint Michel
" From Daft Punk to newcomers Saint Michel, alongside with Phoenix, it's been 20 years that the kids are shaking the clubs withinfra bass and explosives choruses" - L'Optimum
" With Saint Michel, Versailles becomes the center of the world, again" - Les Inrockuptibles

It is our distinct pleasure to invite you to a mega November birthday bash. Anna Huemmer, Diego Rodriguez-Warner, Cody Henrichs, Kim Wimprine and Samantha Pasapane are all welcoming a new year, and ask you to share your laughter, dance moves, your kisses, your distinct and esteemed companionship. We will stock up on refreshments, but look at that roster again and recognise the prudence in bringing something as well. See you soon!

[more]Domain Gallery is pleased to present Inetrnet Download, a solo exhibition by german artist Kim Asendorf curated by Manuel Fernández.
Kim Asendorf is a conceptual artist and works in a large area of media and digital related art. He loves to transport things from the internet into the real life and back.
Kim did several net art projects, often based on data taken from the internet or gathered from other individuals through the internet. He works very experimental with generative strategies, physical computing, data and glitch. Most of his works leads into installations, sculptures, visualizations and abstract geometric art, but also into applications, animated gifs or noisy sounds.
INETRNET DOWNLOAD is the third piece in Kim's ongoing INETRNET saga, after WHAT INETRNET, a RSS feedback loop powered by Google's FeedBurner and the URL shortener parody INETRNET EXTENDER.
INETRNET DOWNLOAD is an One-Click-Hoster simulation to fake common download links like Rapidshare or Uploaded offer. On the main page is a form with the options to enter a file name and a file size to generate a Hyperlink. Links are encoded like a simple value chain, http://inetr.net/download/[FILESIZE]/[FILENAME], and can be created manually as well, because there is no database. Those generated URLs lead to a DOWNLOAD page where you actually can download every specified file.
